Medicine Plants & Fungi of the Boreal Forest: From Indigenous Knowledge to Modern Use – with Robert Rogers

ArborVitae is particularly glad to welcome, for the first time in New York, an herbal elder from Alberta, Canada, Robert Rogers. His class will explore in depth ten medicine plants and mushrooms of the Boreal Forest that are used by northern Cree healers. Plants discussed will be wild sarsaparilla, fireweed, labrador tea, marsh scullcap, rhodiola, spruce, birch and its medicinal mushrooms, including chaga; ganoderma applanatum, red belted conk, and amanita muscaria. Robert will share about their traditional uses and health benefits as well as ethnobotanical and scientific examination of these natural medicines, in a manner accessible, and enjoyable to both the general public, and trained health practitioners.

Robert Rodgers -ArborVitaeRobert Dale Rogers has been an herbalist for over forty-five years, and is a professional member of the American Herbalist Guild. He is the author of many books on herbal medicne including Fungal Pharmacy, A Cree Healer and His Medicine Bundle (authored with David Young and Russell Willier) and most recently Herbal Allies.  He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta, where he is presently an assistant clinical professor in Family Medicine. He presently teaches plant medicine, including plant and mushroom medicine, aromatherapy and flower essences in the Earth Spirit Medicine faculty at the Northern Star College in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
